Bangladesh and Argentina sign MoU for developing climate tolerant smart agriculture technology
Argentina agrees to work together with Bangladesh on bilateral cooperation in agriculture, including the development and use of climate-resilient smart technologies and the exchange, conservation and utilization of plant genetic resources. For this purpose, a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the two countries on 9 issues on Thursday. In the MoU signing ceremony at the Secretariat, the Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak signed on behalf of Bangladesh and Sergio Thomas Massa, the country's Finance Minister on behalf of Argentina.
Argentina's finance minister said, 'Cooperation talks in the agricultural sector that started 4 years ago are on the way to implementation today. It is a great pleasure and this cooperation will continue.'
In addition, the ambassador of Argentina, Marcelo Carlos Sesa, said, 'There are many opportunities between the two countries in terms of cooperation in agriculture. Through the MoU, opportunities to work in those sectors increased.'
Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzak said, "Both countries will benefit through the exchange of agricultural technology and knowledge with the cooperation of Argentina.
Minister of Agriculture Md. Abdur Razzaq further said that, an opportunity to go to another part of the world has been created through this agreement. We can go to the southern part of the world. Argentina is very rich in natural resources. So this is a new chapter in global level cooperation.
The agriculture minister said, we import livestock feed including soybeans from Argentina. As you know, we have to import more than two billion dollars worth of edible oil from the country. Poultry protein depends on soybeans, with Argentina being one of the leading soybean producers.
He also said, "We can bring soybeans from Argentina by signing this MoU." Besides, there will be more trade in agricultural products with them. They will help to improve our agriculture. Besides, we will work together on various international issues including the climate crisis.
Abdur Razzak said, we are going to compete in the global economy. We are surplus in many agricultural products. I strongly believe that in the future we will have Argentina's cooperation in setting up an industry for agricultural processing of surplus products. We will get Argentina's help in breeding innovation and biotechnology.
Secretary of Agriculture Wahida Akhtar, Chairman of BADC Abdullah Sajjad, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture Mahbubul Haque Patwari, Joint Secretary Dr. Md.
